How to Request Indexing for a New Sitemap

Updated October 2026 · v1.0.2

Submitting a sitemap tells Google where the URLs are. It does not inspect each one or press Request indexing for you.

GSC Index can read a sitemap into a list, let you drop the URLs you do not want, and then request indexing until the free cap or Google’s limit stops it.

Submit the sitemap in Search Console

Do this whether or not you use an extension. Google has to know the sitemap exists.

  1. Open Sitemaps. In the property, submit the sitemap URL. Fix a fetch error before you request anything.
  2. Wait for the URL count. Discovered is not indexed. Check a few important URLs with URL inspection.
  3. Request indexing on the ones that matter. Inspect those URLs one at a time. A 10,000 URL sitemap is not 10,000 requests you can send today.

Turn the sitemap into a reviewed queue

The extension does not submit the sitemap for you. It collects URLs so the inspection clicks are not hand-typed.

  1. Point GSC Index at the sitemap. Load the sitemap you already submitted. You can also paste a shorter list.
  2. Remove URLs you do not want requested. Parameter junk, faceted filters, and drafts should come out before you start.
  3. Run until the limit. Free submits 5. Premium continues until Google stops the run. Resume the leftover list later.

A sitemap is a hint

  • Blocked, noindex, or canonicalized URLs can be requested and still not indexed.
  • GSC Index does not call a private indexing API.
  • If you need URLs removed rather than requested, use URLSweep. The jobs are opposites.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does submitting a sitemap index every URL?

No. It is a discovery hint. Indexing is separate, and a request is still not a guarantee.

Should I request every URL in a large sitemap?

No. Request the URLs that changed or that you can see are missing. The quota will run out either way.

Can GSC Index submit the sitemap itself?

No. Submit the sitemap in Search Console. The extension queues inspection requests for URLs you keep.
