GSC Index vs the Google Indexing API

Updated October 2026 · v1.0.2

Google’s Indexing API is a developer interface. Google documents it for a narrow set of pages, notably job postings and livestream structured data, not as a way to push every blog URL.

Plugins that say “instant indexing” often call that API. Using it outside the documented page types can be rejected and is not the same as URL inspection. GSC Index does not call the Indexing API. It clicks Request indexing in Search Console, which is the action a person can do by hand.

Pick the interface that matches the page

Read Google’s current Indexing API documentation before you build a client. The allowed types change only when Google changes the docs.

  1. If the page is an ordinary URL. Use Search Console URL inspection and Request indexing. That is the supported manual path.
  2. If the page is a documented API type. A job posting or livestream that meets the API rules can use the Indexing API, with its own quota and verification.
  3. Do not send the whole site through the API. A plugin that fires the API for every post is not a substitute for a crawlable site and a sitemap.

Use GSC Index for the inspection queue

This is the right tool when you already work in Search Console and have a list. It is the wrong tool when you need the Indexing API’s documented types.

  1. Stay in the Search Console tab. You must be signed in and allowed on the property.
  2. Review, then request. Check On Google or Not on Google in the list before you spend a request.
  3. Stop at Google’s limit. The extension will not keep clicking after Search Console refuses.

Neither path forces indexing

  • A successful API call and a successful inspection request can both end with the URL left out of the index.
  • Rank Math and similar plugins are not competitors to hide. They are a different mechanism. Use them only if their method matches Google’s current rules for your page type.
  • GSC Index is not affiliated with Google.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I use both?

Only if you have both kinds of URLs. Do not fire both at the same ordinary blog post.

Does Premium call the Indexing API?

No. Premium removes the extension’s 5-request cap. The clicks are still URL inspection.

Why not name a winner?

They solve different jobs. An API client is better for documented job or livestream pages you publish in bulk. Inspection is better for ordinary URLs you can open in Search Console.
