How to Check Whether Many URLs Are Indexed in Google

By the Pick Ads team · Tested on Chrome · Published October 20, 2026 · Updated October 20, 2026

Answer: Search Console's URL Inspection tool checks one URL at a time and has a per-property daily limit. To check many URLs, use one of three methods. The Page indexing report shows status for your whole site. The URL Inspection API handles up to 2,000 URLs per day per site. A browser tool can step through URL Inspection for a list you paste in.

Before you start: you need a verified Search Console property, and the URL list you want to check. GSC Index Free can check a list without using any of its 5 indexing requests.

Method 1: Page indexing report + sitemap filter

  1. Open the Page indexing report.
  2. Use the sitemap filter above the chart. You can choose All known pages, All submitted pages, Unsubmitted pages only, or one specific sitemap (Page indexing report).
  3. Click a reason under Why pages aren't indexed to see example URLs.
  4. Use Export to download the data.

Limits: each example list shows up to 1,000 URLs and may not include every affected URL. You can't search or filter the report by URL.

Tip: to check a specific set of URLs, put only those URLs in a separate sitemap, submit it, and filter the report by that sitemap. Google suggests a similar approach for validating fixes.

Method 2: URL Inspection API

The Search Console API has a URL Inspection method. It returns the indexed status for a URL in your property (index.inspect).

  • Quota: 2,000 queries per day and 600 per minute, per site (Search Console API usage limits).
  • Scope: it reports the indexed version only. It can't run a live test.
  • Setup: you need a Google Cloud project, OAuth with the webmasters or webmasters.readonly scope, and a script. The siteUrl must match your property, for example sc-domain:example.com for a Domain property.

Method 3: Browser tool (GSC Index "Check on Google")

  1. Open Search Console for your verified property and stay signed in.
  2. In GSC Index, scan a page or a sitemap, or paste a list of URLs. Remove any you don't want checked.
  3. Click Check on Google. Each URL is marked On Google or Not on Google. This step doesn't request indexing and doesn't use any of the Free plan's 5 requests (GSC Index).
  4. Keep the Search Console tab open. Each inspection waits for Google's own result and can take about a minute.

Why site: isn't a reliable check

Google says a site: query doesn't necessarily return every indexed URL under a prefix, and an indexed URL isn't guaranteed to appear in one. For a definite answer, Google points you to URL Inspection (site: search operator).

What GSC Index doesn't do

It doesn't use Google's API, raise any Google limit, or speed up indexing. It reads the same Search Console screens you'd use by hand. Learn more in check URLs on Google.

FAQ

How many URLs can the API check per day? Google's Search Console API limits page lists 2,000 URL inspection queries per day and 600 per minute for each site. A project has a separate, much higher overall limit. The API reports the indexed version only. It can't run a live test or request indexing.

Does the extension use my Google login? GSC Index works inside your own Search Console tab using the Google session you're already signed in with. It never asks for your Google password. A Pick Ads sign-in is only used if you buy or restore Premium. Your URL list stays in your browser.

Will it slow my property? Checks go through Search Console's normal inspection screen, one URL at a time, and wait for Google's result each time. Google documents a per-property daily limit on inspections, so very long runs may stop until the next day. Google doesn't describe any other effect on your property.

Can I export results? Yes. The Page indexing report has an export button for its tables. The API returns JSON that you can save however you like. GSC Index includes a CSV report on the Free plan.
