How to Get New Shopify Products Indexed Faster
By the Pick Ads team · Tested on Chrome · Published October 20, 2026 · Updated October 20, 2026
Answer: Shopify builds and updates your sitemap automatically, but you still have to submit it in Google Search Console. To get new products found faster, turn off private mode, add the products to collections that link from your homepage or menu, then request indexing for your top products over a few days. Google decides when, and whether, they're indexed.
Who this is for
Merchants launching a batch of new products who want them in Google Search soon, and who are seeing "Discovered" or "not on Google" in Search Console.
What Shopify handles
According to Shopify Help, every store gets an automatic sitemap.xml at its root domain, for example example.com/sitemap.xml. It links to separate sitemaps for products, collections, blogs and pages, and it updates when you add a product, collection, image or post (Shopify Help: Finding and submitting your sitemap).
What you still have to do:
- Verify the store in Search Console. Shopify suggests the HTML tag method.
- Submit
sitemap.xmlunder Indexing → Sitemaps. - Keep the store out of private mode, because Google can't read the sitemap while it's on.
Pre-launch checklist
- The store isn't in private mode.
- Search Console is verified for the primary domain. If you use international domains, verify and submit each one too.
- Every new product has a unique title and a description written for that product, not copied from the supplier.
- Each product belongs to at least one collection.
- The collection is linked from the main menu, the homepage, or a related collection.
- Products aren't set to hidden on the Online Store channel.
Internal links through collections
Google finds pages mainly through links and sitemaps. Google recommends linking every page you care about from at least one other page, using normal <a href> links (Link best practices). On Shopify, collections do this job: a "New arrivals" collection linked from the homepage gives every new product a crawlable path. Link to the product's main URL.
Batch request plan
Search Console has a daily limit on Request indexing, and Google doesn't publish the number (URL Inspection tool). Plan by priority, not by a fixed count per day.
Example with 20 new products:
| Day | Which products | How many to request |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Hero products and best sellers from the launch | Request until Search Console shows the quota message |
| Day 2 | The rest of tier A, then tier B (good margin, strong photos) | Same: stop at the quota message |
| Day 3+ | Remaining products, after you've run Check on Google | Only the ones that still aren't on Google |
| Ongoing | Everything | The sitemap and collection links keep working without requests |
With GSC Index, you can scan the "New arrivals" collection page, remove products you don't want, run Check on Google, and request only the ones that aren't indexed yet. Free covers 5 requests on this browser. Premium ($9.99/month or $99.90/year) keeps the queue across days. Search Console's daily limit still stops each run.
What not to do
- Don't request the same product over and over. Google says that won't speed up crawling (Ask Google to recrawl your URLs).
- Don't launch hundreds of near-identical variants as separate pages. Google groups duplicates and indexes one canonical.
- Don't use the Indexing API for products. Google limits it to job posting and livestream pages.
- Don't leave the store in private mode after launch.
Check results
- Inspect a product URL in URL Inspection. Look for "URL is on Google" and check Last crawl.
- If it shows "Discovered - currently not indexed", Google knows the URL but hasn't crawled it yet. See Discovered – currently not indexed.
- For realistic waits, see how long Google takes to index a page.
When another approach is better
If you mainly want products in Google's Shopping results, the Google & YouTube sales channel syncs your products to Google Merchant Center. That's separate from regular web indexing. Shopify notes that Google manages the channel and that it's only available in some countries and currencies (Shopify Help: Google & YouTube).
FAQ
Does Shopify submit products to Google?
Shopify creates and updates your sitemap automatically, including product links. Shopify Help still tells merchants to verify the store in Google Search Console and submit sitemap.xml themselves. Once it's submitted, Google uses the sitemap to discover products, but Google doesn't guarantee how long crawling takes.
How many URLs per day? Google doesn't publish a number. Search Console has a daily limit on Request indexing for each property, and you'll see a quota message when you reach it. For many products, rely on the sitemap and collection links, and request only your most important products by hand.
Do I need Google Merchant Center? Not for regular search results. Google crawls product pages it finds through links and sitemaps. Merchant Center, connected through Shopify's Google & YouTube channel, is for showing products in Shopping listings and ads. It's managed by Google and is available only in certain countries.
Why is a product "Discovered – currently not indexed"? Google knows the URL but hasn't crawled it yet. Google says it usually postpones the crawl so it doesn't overload the site. On a new store, this often clears up as Google crawls more. Strengthen collection links, keep the sitemap clean, and request a few top products.
