How to Delete Old Chats and Keep Projects

The chats worth keeping are often the ones inside a Project or the ones you pinned. The clutter is last quarter’s experiments in the main list.

ChatGPT and Claude do not offer a reliable “older than 60 days, except Projects” action. Bulk Delete filters by age or date and refuses to select Project and pinned chats.

Sort the keepers out by hand

Do this before any bulk tool, including ours, so the keepers are marked.

Pin or move what you will reread. Pin the chat or put it in a Project. That is the signal Bulk Delete will not select.
Skim titles older than your cutoff. Open the sidebar and note which months are disposable.
Delete those one by one if the list is short. Under a dozen chats, the built-in delete is faster than learning a panel.

Filter by age, then delete

The age filter only changes which rows you see. It does not override the Project and pin exclusion.

Set an age or date filter. For example, older than 30 or 90 days, or a range that matches the experiment month.
Search a title word if needed. Narrow further before Select all.
Delete the selection. Protected chats stay out. Free still caps you at 20 deletes a day, so a long backlog takes more than one day unless you use Premium.

Mark keepers before you filter

An unpinned chat inside the main list can be selected even if you meant to keep it.
Renaming a chat does not protect it. Pin or Project does.
Export the filtered set first if any title looks familiar. Free Markdown export is 5 chats a day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a Project folder count as protected on Claude too?

Yes. On both chatgpt.com and claude.ai, Project chats and pinned or starred chats are not selected.

Can I delete only untitled chats?

Search and the age filter are the controls. There is not a separate “untitled only” switch. Search the placeholder title you see in the sidebar.

What if I already deleted a keeper?

Treat it as gone. Restore from an export if you made one. The extension does not keep a server copy of the chat.
