How to Delete Claude Conversations in Bulk

Claude keeps every conversation in the sidebar until you remove it. After a few months that list is old experiments, one-off questions, and a few threads you still need.

Old chats can hold names, internal notes, code, or personal details.
A shorter sidebar makes the threads you reuse easier to find.
Finished projects do not need to stay in the main list.

The built-in way: one conversation at a time

This works for a handful of chats. At a hundred or more it is slow, and it is easy to lose your place. Claude’s menus change, so confirm the current delete control in Claude’s own help before you rely on a label.

Open the conversation. Find it in the Claude sidebar.
Open its menu. Use the conversation options Claude shows for that chat.
Delete and confirm. Treat the delete as permanent. Export anything you might need first.

What Bulk Delete does on claude.ai

Select many chats

Check conversations one by one, use Select all, or shift-click a range.

Narrow the list

Search titles and filter by age or a date range, such as older than 60 days.

Projects and pinned chats stay out

Those chats are never selected, so a bulk delete does not include them.

Pause or stop

A running job shows progress. You can pause or stop it.

Select many conversations and delete them together

Install and open Claude. Add Bulk Delete from the Chrome Web Store, then open claude.ai and sign in as usual.
Open the panel. The conversation list gets checkboxes. Refresh the list if it looks stale.
Filter. Search titles or set an age or date filter before you select anything.
Select. Choose the conversations to remove. Projects and pinned or starred chats are not part of the selection.
Export if you might need them. Free exports up to 5 chats a day to Markdown. Premium removes that cap and adds ZIP packs.
Delete. Start the job and watch progress. Stop if the selection looks wrong. Confirm before you treat the delete as final.
