How to Delete All ChatGPT Chats

Updated October 2026 · v1.0.0

“Delete all” in ChatGPT is easy to say and easy to regret. A full data delete in settings is broader than the chat list. Deleting one row at a time is narrower and slow.

Bulk Delete is a free Chrome extension by Pick Ads that selects chats on chatgpt.com. Free deletes up to 20 chats a day. Projects and pinned or starred chats are never selected. Export anything you might need before you confirm.

Use ChatGPT’s own controls

Confirm the current labels in ChatGPT’s help. The product moves these controls.

Delete one chat. Open the conversation menu in the sidebar and delete that chat. Repeat. This is the safe path for a handful of threads.
Or clear account data. Settings can delete data more broadly than the visible chat list. Read the screen before you confirm. It is not a preview of each title.
Check Projects and pins first. If a chat should survive, pin it or move it into a Project before any wide delete.

Select many, skip what must stay

The extension adds checkboxes on chatgpt.com. It does not delete from an OpenAI API, and it does not sync chat text to Pick Ads.

Open Bulk Delete on chatgpt.com. The panel lists chats it can see in this browser session.
Select the chats. Select all, or a range. Project and pinned chats stay unchecked.
Delete within the plan. Free stops at 20 deletes a day. Premium removes that cap. Pause or stop if the titles look wrong.

All does not mean the protected chats

Projects and pinned or starred chats are never part of the selection.
A delete in the product is treated as permanent. Export Markdown first if you might want the text. Free exports up to 5 chats a day.
Claude is a separate site. The same extension has a Claude guide on the guides index.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Select all include my Projects?

No. Project chats and pinned or starred chats are not selected.

Is there an undo?

Do not plan on one. Export first, then delete.

Why did it stop at 20?

That is the Free daily delete cap. Premium is unlimited deletes. Neither plan deletes the protected chats.
