How to Pause Adblock on One Site

Updated October 2026 · v1.0.4

Some pages detect a missing ad slot and refuse to load the article, the video, or a checkout step. Uninstalling Adblock is more than you need.

Adblock can pause protection on the current site. Other sites stay blocked. Free includes pause.

Load the page without the extension

Use this when you want a clean test before you change Adblock’s setting.

  1. Open a private window. Chrome private windows do not run extensions unless you allowed them there.
  2. Open the same URL. If the page works here and fails in the normal window, the extension is a likely cause.
  3. Sign in only if you must. A private window does not keep your session. Do not use it for a payment if you can pause the site instead.

Pause the current site

Pause is per site. It stays until you turn protection back on for that site.

  1. Open the Adblock popup. Use the toolbar icon on the broken page.
  2. Pause this site. The popup states that protection is paused for this site and still shows the blocked count.
  3. Reload. The page loads with its own ads and scripts. Turn protection back on when you are done.

Pause is not a global off switch

  • Other sites keep their current setting.
  • A paused site can show sponsored posts, cookie banners, and the ads Adblock had been hiding.
  • If the page still fails in a private window, the extension is not the cause.

Do I lose the blocked-ad counter?

Is pause a Premium feature?
