How to Hide Sponsored Posts on Facebook

Updated October 2026 · v1.0.4

Sponsored posts sit in the same Facebook feed as friends and groups. Hiding one post does not stop the next one.

Adblock is a free Chrome extension by Pick Ads that hides supported sponsored posts on Facebook. It does not block every ad format Facebook ships, and it does not change your Facebook account settings.

Hide a sponsored post yourself

Facebook’s menus change. Use the control on the post itself. This hides that item for you; it does not clear the rest of the feed.

  1. Open Facebook in Chrome. Use facebook.com while you are signed in.
  2. Open the post menu. Use the menu on the sponsored post, not the page menu.
  3. Choose hide or not interested. Facebook may ask why. That feedback trains that account’s feed. It is not a browser-wide block.

Hide supported sponsored posts with Adblock

Adblock looks for supported advertising elements in the Facebook feed and hides them locally in Chrome. Free includes this. Pause the site when a page needs the original layout.

  1. Install Adblock. Add it from the Chrome Web Store listing linked on the product page.
  2. Open Facebook. Reload the feed. The popup shows how many ads were blocked on this site.
  3. Pause if something breaks. Turn protection off for facebook.com only, then reload. Other sites stay as they were.

What this does not do

  • It does not hide every future ad unit Facebook invents.
  • Reels, Suggested posts, and Recommendations are Premium feed controls, not part of the free sponsored-post hide.
  • Blocking runs in the browser. Adblock does not upload your feed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Facebook ban my account for hiding sponsored posts?

Hiding elements in your own browser is not the same as clicking ads or using a fake account. Adblock does not log into Facebook for you. Facebook can still change the page so a hide stops matching.

Does free Adblock hide Reels?

No. Hiding supported Reels, Suggested posts, and Recommendations is a Premium feed control.

Can I turn it off for one site?

Yes. Pause protection on the current site from the popup. See the pause guide for the steps.
