How to Hide Newsletter Popups in Chrome

Updated October 2026 · v1.0.4

A newsletter modal, a floating video, or a notification prompt is not always an ad network request. Closing it once often brings it back on the next article.

Adblock Premium includes Block Distractions for supported floating videos, newsletter popups, and notification prompts. The free plan blocks supported ads, not these extra overlays.

Close the popup on the page

This works for a single visit. The site can show the same popup again later.

  1. Use the popup’s close control. Prefer the site’s close or “no thanks” control over pressing back, which can leave the page.
  2. Block notification permission. If Chrome asks to show notifications, choose Block in the permission prompt. That is a Chrome setting, not an ad blocker.
  3. Reload and check. If the modal returns immediately, the site is forcing it. A content filter can hide a supported one.

Hide supported distractions with Premium

Premium hides overlays Adblock recognizes. It does not click subscribe, and it does not grant or deny notification permission for you.

  1. Enable Block Distractions. This is a Premium switch, next to cookie banners and Hide Anything.
  2. Reload the article. Supported newsletter popups and floating videos are hidden.
  3. Use Hide Anything for a leftover element. Premium can remove a selected element when the generic distraction rule does not match it.

Leave real dialogs alone

  • A checkout, login, or cookie choice can look like a popup. Pause the site if a needed dialog disappears.
  • Chrome’s notification Block is separate from Adblock.
  • Free Adblock does not include distraction hiding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this stop Chrome’s notification prompt?

Chrome’s own prompt is a browser permission. Choose Block there. Adblock’s distraction control targets supported page popups, not Chrome’s permission UI.

Can I hide one stubborn box?

Premium’s Hide Anything removes a selected element where that tool supports it. It is not a guarantee for every site.

Does this replace an ad blocker for Facebook?

No. Sponsored posts are a separate free feature. This guide is about newsletter and distraction overlays.
