A ModHeader Alternative that Imports Your Profiles

Updated October 2026 · v1.2.0

ModHeader is a widely used HTTP header editor. If it already does the one rule you need, there is no reason to switch.

HeaderSwap is a separate Chrome extension by Pick Ads. It changes request and response headers and redirects with Chrome’s declarativeNetRequest API, and it can import a ModHeader JSON export. It is not affiliated with ModHeader. The name is only about that import.

Decide if you need to move

Switching extensions mid-debug wastes time when the current tool already matches the bug.

  1. List the rules you actually use. Count headers, redirects, and how many environments (local, staging, prod) you flip between.
  2. Export from ModHeader. Use ModHeader’s export so you have a JSON file even if you stay.
  3. Stay if the export is the whole job. One or two headers on one site do not require a new extension.

Try HeaderSwap with the same profiles

Free includes up to 2 profiles and 10 rules per profile, plus domain, URL, and regex filters. Premium removes those caps and adds sync and auto-expiry.

  1. Install HeaderSwap. Add it from the Chrome Web Store listing. Pause ModHeader on the same sites so two tools do not both rewrite the same header.
  2. Import the JSON. Paste the export or drop the file. Request headers, response headers, filters, and redirects convert where the format is supported.
  3. Reload and compare. Open the site, confirm the header in the network panel, and turn HeaderSwap off if the result is wrong.

What import does not promise

  • An unsupported field in an export is skipped, not invented.
  • HeaderSwap does not read page content. It modifies headers through declarativeNetRequest.
  • Free stops at 2 profiles. An import with more profiles needs Premium to use the extras.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is HeaderSwap a ModHeader update?

No. Different publisher, different extension. Import is a convenience for people leaving or copying a profile.

Can both extensions run together?

They can be installed together. Do not apply both to the same header on the same site or you will not know which value the browser sent.

Does import upload my tokens?

The import runs in the extension. Premium sync is optional and leaves secret-like header values out unless you opt in. See the HeaderSwap privacy policy.
